( Today's verse  Jonah 1:1-3 )
Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.

The pastor said that this year's theme is SEED FAITH.

Christians should sow seeds of faith for the future harvest. We look at other people's success and envy them. Forget about the success in other peoples lives and concentrate on your own life by sowing seeds, preparing for the future.

A thriving economy is good for us, but we do not depend on it. Japan has experienced an economic recession and the authorities are saying they can turn the situation around. Good news but that is not enough for Christians. At the beginning of the year it is wise to start with sowing seeds of faith so that we can have a true blessed future.

There is a famous sumo wrestler by the name of Hakuho who migrated to Japan on invitation in the year 2000. He was fifteen years old then. He was one of eight invitees who came for trials to become sumo wrestlers. The other seven were recruited but not him, because he wasn't stout enough. He had the height, but he didn't have the rest of the sumo wrestler physical features. He was going back to Mongolia as a reject, but the recruiter decided to give him a chance, hoping that he would gain more weight.
Hakuho has won 27 championships since, which is a phenomenal feat. He has made a name, broken records and is so loved by the Japanese citizens.
The first two months of his stay in Japan defined his destiny. Against all odds, he was determined to be great at his profession. Those first steps were very important.
The first steps of this year have consequences on the rest of the year. You can be blessed in this year by making wise decisions right now at the beginning of the year. When we take the right steps at the beginning, the rest of the journey is blessed.

Having read the scripture above, let's look at two things.

In the scripture above,

1). The presence of The Lord.
Jonah decided to flee to Tarshis, instead of going to Nineveh. He was fleeing from the presence of God. The consequences on him and the the people on the vessel were catastrophic. We can not flee or live without God in our lives. We must be in the presence of God all the time.

2). In Jonah 1:3 it is is said that Jonah went down to go with them. We sometimes sin under the pretext of "I am doing something with him/her or them". In Japan, there is a saying that translates to English as "If everybody is crossing on a red light, it is "OK" for you to cross too". Meaning if everybody is doing it, you can do it also.
But as Christians, we must be different. We must follow god's lead, not the crowd.
Martin Luther King was summoned by the emperor and forced to disown his assertions about Christianity. He prayed to God for boldness and did not budge to the emperor's demands.
Do not follow instructions that are unGodly even if everybody is doing it or says so.
May your new year's resolutions be Godly. Decide to be a worshiper as we begin 2014 so that you will have a blessed future.

New Year's greetings from pastor Mandai

〔 Fresh blessings for your new walk in 2014! 〕

Our yearly theme for the church is "Seed-Faith!: Let's sow seeds of faith for the great harvest in a future!"

People say that changes in our society is going to be realized in many places in coming years.
In the time of transition like this, don't miss the chance to experience the mighty hands of the living God which makes impossibilities into possibilities with His blessings.
So, please don't forget to sow your seeds of faith and actions in every realms of your life, including your health, family, school, finances, relationship, activities in church and etc.
Knowing our heavenly Father is the source of all the blessings, let us sow our seeds of faith in everything we face in life.
And, let us expect great harvests, blessigns and miracles from our gracious Father.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you richly as you walk the days in 2014, believing in His name.

Bible reading:Luke 1: 34-37
“… with God nothing is impossible”....

God has been faithful to the church to reach out using the secular channels. He has faithfully provided us with the great opportunity. Let’s use it.

Christmas: Jesus is the real and living savior. He is the same yesterday today and forever. Christmas is the real experience. Its not just history and culture, but it's an experience which is still real and available today. In Luke 1 from vs 34, the angel appeared to Mary and made it clear that through her (Mary), a savior will come into the world. Because of the historical settings, Mary did not have a relationship with any man, not even Joseph. She had a big question, how a child would be born. But the angel assured her that the child will be through the work of the Holy Spirit. Christmas and our very faith is born out of the work of the Holy Spirit. It's the Holy Spirit who drives us. We need the Holy Spirit to work in us everyday, even today.
The birth is not in the past, the power of the Holy Spirit is not in the past. The power is real and alive everyday. EVEN today.

Salvation is only from the Living God. The birth of Jesus, created and born of the Holy spirit, brings an opportunity to transform our lives.. The son came and brought eternal life to the evil world. He changed our very nature. He brought salvation.

In Addition, the angle told Mary, “. with God nothing is impossible”.
Nothing is impossible with our God. He changes nothing to something. He create something from where there is nothing. Jesus broke the impossibility. He abandoned the glory in heaven to become one of us. He made the forgiveness of sins possible. He made healing possible. He washes our sins away. Death was the end of our lives but Jesus changed. GOD can do anything. He breaks the limitation of our imagination setting us free and giving us hope.

Christmas is not a ritual; it's a real-time and daily celebration. When Jesus is with us we have all the possibilities. Jesus is our savior.

Make sure you have Him in your heart. Lets receive and walk with Jesus because He is our God and always realistic. Always confess vs 37, “with God nothing is impossible”

Matsuyama Charity Christmas 2013

charity2013.tif

Praise the Lord.

We have only one month left to the end of this year.
This month we are going to have Christmas season.  Our church started the preparation of many Christmas events.
Christmas is the best time to evangelize the people around us.  So don't be satisfied with only joyful feeling or atmosphere of Christmas in this country. People look like to celebrate secular Christmas where there is no Jesus, no salvation.  Only the Christmas parties, Christmas cakes, Christmas trees, Christmas presents,  Santa Claus ….  many things are there.   But the main character of Christmas, Jesus Christ, is not shown in Christmas in Japan.

So as believers of Jesus Christ, let's make sure that we are going to celebrate real Christmas.  We are Christians.!
We really want to  bring the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We want to pray so that we can utilize the opportunities to take our friends to Christ, to Christmas meetings, Christmas Sunday service, and Christmas concerts.  There are several special meetings provided for many people.  So why don't you just remind of  faces of  people around you, Japanese people, professors, fellow students, neighbors?   I believe there are many good people around you.  Why don't we pray that  the salvation can be happened to those people?
Let's pray that people can come to Christmas meeting.  They're going to open their hearts and receive the message.  And they're going to receive Jesus Christ.
Let's pray for the people, our friends to be saved at Christmas time!!

 ( Matsuyama Charity Christmas 2013 )
We will have Citizen Charity Christmas as the annual event.  This year we hold it 2 times since 14:00 and 18:00.  There are a play of Tone Chimes, whose sound is very beautiful. And also there are Christmas songs and heartwarming short message by Pastor Eiji Mandai.  It's a good chance to invite your loving people to Christ.  You and your friends shall enjoy it.  We will prepare the front right side corner of the venue for the English interpretation.  We hope you will join and celebrate Christmas together.

Date: 14th of December
Time: PM 2:00 and 6:00 ( Twice performance )
Place: Nankaihousou Honmachi Kaikan
Address: Matsuyama City Honnmachi 1-1-1
Advance ticket: \1200 for an adult, \600 for a high school or junior high school student, free for an elementary schoolchild.

We, Praise fellowship, are also a supporter of this citizen Charity Christmas.  We have already paid the support.  So if you want to invite your friends to this Charity Christmas, please let us know. (Please buy your ticket from us or from church. )  ※When you want to ask something or want a ticket, please ask sister Ayame or Fukiko.

English Sunday service in Mastuyama 2013/10/27

DSC02927.JPG

DSC02935.JPG

Bible reading: 2 Timothy 1:5-7

In his introductory remarks, the Pastor mentioned that 2 days ago it was his birthday. (Cogratulate you & Thank you, Pastor!)He got many delicious birthday cakes.  As he was eating one of the cakes that contained fig fruits, he was reminded that now it is a harvest season.  In the same way GOD has the best things prepared for us and He wants to bless us.  Therefore, we need to exercise our faith which is already in us to practically receive GODs blessings.
Then he continued with his message by referring to 2 Timothy 1:5-7. From the scriptural reference, the pastor taught the following 3 important points:

DSC02933.JPG

1.As Christians, we should remember and be mindful of our pure faith which we received. Also we have to know that we are precious in the sight of GOD and so He has prepared and given us good things. Therefore we need to bring them out and make use of them.

2.Secondly, we need to stir up our faith in Christ Jesus and to avoid being lukewarm. Otherwise GOD will spill us out. GOD wants us to be hot for him and do things for Him. We need the Holy Spirit to stir up our faith and to ablaze the fire in our heart and to be hot for Christ.

3.Lastly, we should not fear to do things for GOD because He has not given us the spirit of fear but of love, power and sound mind. Usually instead of having big visions for GOD we are trapped by the spirit of fear and worry.
A good example is the disciples who run away from Jesus Christ because of fear. However, when they received the power of The Holy Spirit in Acts 1:8, they were transformed and had power and were bold for the work of GOD. Now GOD also promised to give us power of The Holy Spirit and if we do not have this power we are easily trapped and controlled by the spirit of fear, anger, hatred and negative feelings of Satan.

Furthermore, the world expresses love in different forms and in all those it is mostly selfish love. But for us, when we receive The Holy Spirit He gives us genuine love, self control or sound mind, humbleness and power to do things. So we should not excuse ourselves and remain in the same state or at the same stage. We need to also to realize that we cannot do it by ourselves. It is only GOD our creator, healer and comforter who equips us and makes a way for us.

In conclusion, he emphasized that as Christians we should keep ablaze the fire of faith in us and to be hot for GOD by the power of The Holy Spirit. We need to be filled with The Holy Spirit in order to effectively serve Him.

Birth of a baby!

A baby girl was born to Bro.Maurice and Sis.Ponyadira!!

Before the delivery we were worrying a lot, since the doctor said that the baby grew too big in her womb.  So after English Sunday service on 27th in September we all prayed that the baby would be born safely and smoothly within that week.  But God did wonderful things beyond our anxiety! We didn't have to worry at all!

The baby girl was born on 3rd in October. She was not so big as the doctor said.  The time of her delivery was very short, and it was more smoothly than we thought.  As soon as Mauris entered the delivery room, the baby was born. He could be in time for the delivery!

Hallelujah! Everything was good in God's time.
How great God's works are!  God does the best towards those who love God and trust him.  Praise the Lord!

Seeing the wonderful work of God with our eyes, we were very impressed.
Through these blessings we were encouraged very much and our faith was made stronger.

Thank you for your prayers!

We visited Uchiko for grape picking on 31st August.

We could eat grapes there as much as we like. The type of grapes was "Kyoho", that was a big sized-grape and so sweet.
This activity gave us the sign of autumn and we really had a great time!

 [Today’s Bible verse] Mark 12: 28〜31

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

“What is the key for real happiness?”

We are from various countries and have different cultures, custom and thinking so on. Nevertheless all human beings have been looking for the same; health and money.
Historically people have been pursuing health and wealth to live longer and longer.
Recent survey in Japan says; the average of life span of Japanese women is 86.45 yrs and that of Japanese men is about 79.94 yrs. It means 83 years old is the average of life span of Japanese. The bottom line is that the Japanese has the longest life and wealth enough materially in the world. But can we say we are the happiest people ? No, I don’t think so. Many Japanese are still single in their 40’s. Also another survey says many people have mental diseases and approximately 30,000 people commit suicide every year in Japan. What is the problem with us? We seem to have everything but empty inside. Here comes question; “What is the key for real happiness?” Today’s verse shows us two of the most important God’s commandments.

 1) Love your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength; We need proper relationship with the Living God

 2) Love your neighbors as you love yourself.

We are created by God. We are spiritual beings. Real key of success and happiness is; relationship with the Living God.

In our actual life, we are too busy and diligent people, however, we have to be very careful about our spiritual life. In fact we are too busy on smart phone, PC, on-line game, replying e-mail so on, wasting a great deal of time.
Once again, I say to you that we are spiritual existence so that only Living God can satisfy us.
So do not forget to open the bible, meditate and pray every day. Make sure of these 2 keys for real happiness. And take care of your spiritual life.
Because Jesus Christ has showed His mercy upon us and demonstrated His supreme, ultimate love toward us.
Let us restore spiritual relationship with God.
